In before I had flashed DD-WRT on this model router. Ever since I have flashed OpenWRT my 2.4Ghz wireless coverage has been worse. I have tried changing my region to US and increasing transmit power to max (24dbm) but nothing works. I don't want to give up on OpenWRT since it is more future proof and has package options which DD-WRT lacks.

OpenWRT Installation Tutorial on a N600 TL-WDR3600 Router The WHR-HP-G54 didn't allow me to get more than 4Mbps when connecting to the VPN. Changing the WDR3600 to DD-WRT and connecting to the same VPN allowed me to get speeds close to 17Mbps. Note that using the TP-LINK firmware to connect to the VPN over PPTP worked, but I was unable to access many websites. Thus my switch to DD-WRT. As a follow up I could not get my TP-Link TL-WR1043N 1.1 Router to convert to Gargoyle 1.72 from DD-WRT 2.X through the WEB GUI in DD-WRT. But was able to flash it back to factory through the DD-WRT GUI by using this file on the DD-WRT Site. WR1043N(D) v1.x Webrevert - Back to stock tl-wr1043nd_v1-webrevert.rar 2013-04-24.
Dec 16, 2013 · I upgraded my old Asus WL-520GU (Broadcom based) router to a new TP-Link TL-WDR3600 (Atheros based) at my business and it was a bit of an effort to get the same functionality I had. The Broadcom chips were almost universal in SOHO routers, so their support is widespread and DD-WRT’s web interface supports them widely.
